Enter the vibrant world of Mika Ninagawa~~~
Where Art Meets Emotion!

Some of you may already be familiar with the incredibly talented Mika Ninagawa. She has worked on Helter Skelter, No Longer Human, xxxHolic, and more. If her name sounds familiar, you might also recognize her father, Yukio Ninagawa, a renowned director known for classics like Snakes and Earrings, The Silk Road, and Diner (which he worked on alongside Mika!).
Mika Ninagawa is a world-famous photographer and film director with an extensive career in the industry. By pure chance, I was discussing art with one of my clients, and they mentioned this exhibit. The moment I heard about it, I knew I had to go.
<<Spoiler alert: This was by far the best museum exhibit I’ve been to in the past three years. She has officially gained a new fan, and I’ll definitely be following her work from now on!>>
Art Exhibit Reservation
You can check the official webpage Ninagawa Museum Homepage!
*You don’t need a reservation, but if you’re going during peak hours, I highly recommend booking in advance.
*Just in case, I reserved my ticket one day ahead.
*Weekends can get busy, so secure your spot early!
How to Get There! Transportation~
- The Kyocera Museum is fairly easy to get to, but it’s a bit far from the train station. Here’s the best way to go:
- Take the limited-express train to Katsura Station.
- Exit at Exit 18.
- Catch the bus directly to the museum.
I’ve been to this museum twice before, but this was my first time taking the bus—and let me tell you, it’s the way to go! The other times I walked, and while it’s a nice 20-minute walk, I recommend this only if the weather is pleasant (especially during sakura season ).
*** If you prefer, you can walk 20 minutes from Kyoto-Kawaramachi Station or take a direct bus from there to the museum entrance.
Arrival to Art
Once at the museum, I stored my belongings in a locker before heading to the ticket counter. Even though I reserved a time slot, the crowd was light, so I just purchased a regular ticket at the entrance.
Brushstroke and Beauty- An Immersive Experience

I won’t spoil all of the magic, but if you’re a fan of interactive museum experiences, you’re in for a treat. While traditional exhibits allow you to observe art, this one invites you to step inside it. The combination of lights, sound, and immersive visuals makes it an unforgettable experience.
The First Room: Right from the beginning, the exhibit hits you emotionally. As you walk in, it forces you to reflect on life, death, and your existence as a whole. The first section features stunning photography of Tokyo, beautifully paired with lights and music, creating a mesmerizing atmosphere.
From there, the journey unfolds as you explore each section of the exhibit.
Here’s A Sneak Peek of What You’ll Experience:

✨ Shimmering Lights & Dreamlike Ambience

Each room carries its own theme, blending color, motion, and storytelling to create a dreamlike experience.
Visual Art Storytelling and Thoughts

I cannot recommend this exhibit enough. As a fellow creative, seeing how all these elements came together left me feeling inspired, motivated, and deeply moved. It was a powerful reminder to slow down and appreciate life’s fleeting moments—whether it’s blooming flowers, human connections, or the beauty in everyday life.
If you’re feeling lost, having an existential crisis, or simply craving something beautiful, this is the perfect escape.
Happy Viewing!

Thank you for reading! I hope you’ll take the time to visit this stunning exhibit. The Mika Ninagawa Art Exhibit runs at the Kyoto Kyocera Museum until March 30—so don’t miss your chance!
Maybe you’ll even be like me and go twice because you just can’t get enough. Either way, I know you’ll have an amazing time.
Take a deep breath, immerse yourself in the music and visuals, and let yourself be swept away in the beautiful world of Mika Ninagawa. Enjoy!
