I know, I know, life can be a little bit stressful. You’re looking for an escape, right? What better way than to surround yourself with art? Better yet, immerse yourself in it! Join me as I go to the Immersive Museum Osaka Exhibit.
An Art Experience
I’m very clearly a fan of the arts and an advocate for mental health. I got the best of both worlds when I heard about this exhibit and how it is basically a combination of both as art is used to ease the mind.
The paintings showcased are centered around Post-modern art, so artists such as Van Goh, Seurat, Cézanne, and more were displayed at the exhibit!
About the Artist
I won’t delve too much into the background information here, but one of the members of a Japanese boy band group is the ambassador for Immersive Museum Osaka this year. Ae! member Masakado Yoshinori, you might have heard of him.
I don’t know very much about him, only that his group recently blew up and that their group photos were posted everywhere around Umeda months ago. On top of that, I saw them do
live street interviews on TV where some of the members went around speaking to foreigners in another country despite not speaking English (not sure about the whole group, but the 2 members interviewing didn’t know English).😅
I can’t speak for the other members, but it seems that Masakado really enjoys arts for him to not only be an artist but happily be the ambassador for this event in addition.
Get That Ticket BUT…
I got my ticket using the E+ app. Seems easy enough, right? However, as I had to learn the hard way when it came to my Blue Period Museum Exhibit experience (check out that article here), you should read the fine print. After choosing the day for the ticket on the app, it specifically says that you have to pick up the physical ticket from a convenience store or somewhere around.
You don’t actually pay for the ticket on the E+ app, rather you reserve it and then you have to pick it up and pay for it at the convenience store of your choice.
Always make sure to read the fine print!
You also have two options for tickets. You can get just the Immersive Museum Osaka ticket which allows for entry into the exhibit OR you can pay a little more to get a ticket for the Koji Kinutani Tenka Art Museum, which is currently being held at Grand Front at Umeda Station. At the time, I didn’t know what this exhibit was (keep this in mind for later), I just saw that there was an extra ticket option for more and suggested that my friend and I get it. To live up life, you know?

Walking Into A Work of Art
My friend and I met up at the front of the building where the exhibit was being held. After, we walked inside and showed our tickets before the employees handed us brochures about the exhibit and let us inside. It was fun to take a picture with the big sign at the very front of the building.
< If you go, make sure to wear white so that you can really see the projections on your clothes ;)>
Relaxing in the Art
Almost immediately after entering the building, we went around the corner and were able to read information about the different artists being showcased in the exhibit. Then, we went into a gigantic room where projectors were set up and beanbags/seat cushions were available. This is the main event of the entire exhibit.
A 15-minute display plays of post-modern art on a loop the whole time. The art is taken from actual paintings post-modern artists created and were transformed to have movement using computers as if it were a movie. So cool”
After the projection show ends, you can take pictures for about five minutes with the changing projections before the video plays again and you are immersed in the art once more.
We stayed for about three different cycles of the video and took pictures in between before leaving the exhibit.
Gifting the Art
Of course, we went the look at the souvenirs after. I got myself two bookmarks!
Becoming the Art
Right after the souvenir shop, an area is set up where you can get yourself painted as if Van Gogh did it- using AI. It was a 40-minute wait since everyone wanted their picture done, but it was well worth it for the picture and it only cost us ¥500 each!
AFTER: Extra Ticket for Fun
As I mentioned before we did technically pay for the extra ticket. But what I hadn’t realized is that it was to an exhibit that I had actually already been to, which you can see by clicking this link to a previous blog I did when my best friend came to visit Japan back in December.
I should’ve actually read it to know what I was spending my money on. Either way, when my friend and I went, it was a great time because she hadn’t been so she was fascinated by the art that we viewed in the museum.
And the Art Score Is…..
If you ask me what I expected prior to going to the exhibit, I certainly expected more areas to be set up in order for us to be able to see more art. However, both my friend and I were surprised that it was short.
Go in. Sit and watch the projection for some time. Maybe get a souvenir and your picture done. Then leave. There wasn’t much to do at all.
Overall Score:★ ★ ☆ ☆ ☆
The exhibit ended late last month, but I know that they’re doing this exhibit in different areas and they will most likely do another one in the future. Keep my words and this experience in mind before you go so that you don’t have too high of expectations like I did. I would go again, but on a day when I have more time to relax in the room for at least 2 hours. Hopefully, you can go to the next one!
