Not sure what to do for your birthday? Looking for special deals, discounts, or freebies in Japan? Don’t worry—I’ve got you covered!
Cake Day~
Everyone’s got a birthday, but the big question is how to celebrate when that special day comes around. We all know it’s a bit of a struggle when it comes to finding coupons in Japan, especially if you’re used to using Groupon in America. But I’ve been doing a bit of research to see what freebies they are and I’m more than happy to share what I’ve learned with you.
I’ve seen a few lists on the Internet that haven’t been updated with the current discounts and freebies available as of 2025, so I’m here to update it. Since my birthday just passed on January 17 (shout out to my fellow Capricorns), I’ll mention a few activities that I did that I KNOW are discounted (or not) and a few things that you may be interested in.
Be sure to stick around until the end of the article for a bonus.

Birthday Celebrations in Japan
1) Are You Hungry? Eggs n’ Things Birthday Pancake!
Japan is famous for its cute and Insta-worthy desserts, and if you want a birthday treat, head over to Eggs ‘n Things! Although some articles claim you can get a free birthday plate, I’m here to set the record straight—you do have to pay for the pancake, but the personalized birthday message in icing is free! When I went, three staff members wished me a happy birthday as they handed me my delicious stack of pancakes. It was totally worth it!

2) Happy Birthday🎶🎶 Karaoke Session
Karaoke is a must-do in Japan, and what better time to enjoy it than on your birthday? I literally go 1-3 times a week. Many karaoke chains offer discounts and even special treats for your birthday month! For example, DAM CLUB provides a 15% discount and a free warm Danish pastry with your session. I took advantage of this deal with my Japanese teacher and we had so much fun! We’re excited to do the same for her birthday!
Join free membership apps for major karaoke chains like Jankara, Big Echo, カラオケDAM, and Joysound to access exclusive birthday deals.

4)What’s The Theme? USJ And Disneyland!
While theme park entry isn’t free, celebrating at Universal Studios Japan (USJ) or Tokyo Disneyland comes with a special perk—a free birthday sticker! Wearing this sticker means you’ll get extra attention from staff and even some characters, making your visit extra magical.
You’ll certainly feel special 🙂
5) Round and Round We Go! Osaka Ferris Wheel
Want a breathtaking birthday experience? The Hep Five Ferris Wheel in Osaka offers a special birthday discount so you can enjoy a scenic ride over the city at a lower price!
