We all know Tokyo; it’s the capital of Japan! However, did you think about all the random things there are to do around Tokyo that aren’t so mainstream? If you’re planning a short Tokyo itinerary and want to experience hidden gems in Tokyo, I’ve got you covered in this article!

Here is everything I did in my two-day Tokyo adventure that I know you’ll love to try yourself!

Food for Days

Tokyo’s themed cafés never fail to charm! This floral fantasy with teddy bears, ribbon-tied chairs, and soft lighting creates the perfect setting for an afternoon of kawaii relaxation.

1)Forest Bear Sushi Bowl

At Sushi Bear Tokyo, you can dine in extreme cuteness. (Huge shoutout to Carolyn for going here with me!) I’ve never seen such cute sushi in Tokyo before! Everything is adorable, and then BAM, Natsumi-san (the owner) whips out a chef’s torch and chars the cute little bear! Between the Instagram-worthy food spots in Tokyo and the yummy food, you can’t go wrong here!

2)Parfait & Fruit Juice?!

Satisfy your sweet cravings in Tokyo with these extravagant fruit parfaits! Decorated like edible art, they’re just as delicious as they are Instagram-worthy.

Fruit Garden Liber Harajuku Store/果実園リーベル 原宿店 was quite the treat! This was yet another store with lovely decor~ I really enjoyed eating there because the fruit was very tart and a bit sour. Despite it being juiced, it still felt healthy to drink and eat, even in dessert form! This is one of the best spots for a healthy dessert in Tokyo. The staff was really friendly, and I enjoyed relaxing there with my friend as we caught up on life.

3) Halal Curry on the Go

I was walking around the Jingumae area in Shibuya when I realized I hadn’t eaten lunch yet. I decided to go into a Tokyo food court that also had a mini shopping area. As I was looking for what to eat, the employee smiled at me, so I decided to give them my money haha. Sometimes, really all it takes is a smile for me to invest in someone’s service/business. The food was super yummy! I felt extremely full afterward. It was also my first time seeing a halal curry spot in Tokyo offer fries on the side lol.

4)Canel Et Crème Glacée

Tokyo’s dessert cafés blend simplicity and indulgence. These fresh gelato cups and matcha latte made for a perfect end to a busy city day.

Another shoutout to Carolyn haha. I love just walking and seeing where the wind blows. In this case, it blew us in the direction of this delicious ice cream spot in Tokyo after our cute sushi adventure. I 10/10 recommend the ice cream and matcha drinks here. I asked the employees which drink was sweetest, and they did not disappoint. The employees thought hard about what would be best and really did their best to give me a sweet matcha drink haha.

Don’t Act Up! It’s An Activity!

1)Learn the Way of a Ninja

At BUB ACTIVITY CENTER Asakusa, I learned so much about the ninja lifestyle in Japan! Let me ask, do you know what ninjas used on the tips of their poison darts? What about how many shurikens ninjas typically carried? Even things like learning how to tiptoe like a ninja weren’t something I had ever thought of, but that’s exactly what I learned at this fun and interactive Tokyo activity. Hands down, I would recommend this to anyone who really wants to learn more about Japanese culture and traditions!

I did the ninja experience, but they also offer:

  • A dumpling-making experience
  • A knife-making workshop
  • A sushi-making experience in Tokyo

2)Go to a Live or Concert

Spotted in Shibuya! From idol events to fan meet-ups, Tokyo’s pop culture scene offers unforgettable experiences for every fangirl and fanboy out there.

The whole reason I went to Tokyo was for a fan meet-up with a Taiwanese singer that I really like. (Sorry mom, traveling many miles is officially the craziest thing I’ve done for a man.) Why not make the most of your trip by going to a real Japanese music event?

You won’t get this experience anywhere else, right? So take advantage of it!

You can find the latest event details by looking at the event listings outside convenience stores, on the event machines inside the convenience store, or on the app/webpage for e-plus events.

3)Hair & Make Up Studio

Thank you so much to the lovely women who established and work at NINJA HARAJUKU Hair & Makeup Studio! When I went in, they instantly greeted me with kindness and smiles! Saori and Natsumi were soooo sweet! You get to choose a hair and makeup style in Tokyo from their magazine ,and then do a photoshoot in Harajuku after at this location❣️ I chose the Harajuku hairstyle with a bit of light pop star glam as my makeup choice.

Their English is great, and it honestly felt like I was just talking with sisters as they prepared me for my wedding or prom haha. Everything about this experience was wonderful, and I recommend it to anyone who wants to feel beautiful in Tokyo.

4) Thrifting

Of course, Tokyo is a hot spot for shopping, but if you walk around the Harajuku area, you’ll see it is really great for thrifting in Tokyo. Just walk through the streets, and you’ll see hundreds of places where you can shop ‘til you drop.

5) Mini Photoshoot

Tokyo nights hit differently. From a quiet balcony above the buzzing streets, you can feel the pulse of the city while stealing a moment of calm. The contrast of neon signs and soft string lights makes Tokyo’s nightlife feel cinematic and surreal.

Just hear me out—choose one of the lesser-known areas and go do a photoshoot in Tokyo! With a combination of 3+4, I was ready for a scheduled photoshoot with the ever-so-wonderful Isaiah Brown, who took amazing pictures of me around a lesser-known tourist spot. It’s definitely worth checking out places where you have the opportunity to see more local Tokyo areas that aren’t crowded with people! Plus, it could lead to an unexpected adventure. 🙂

Happy Tokyoing!

I know you’ll have a fun time in Tokyo! Whether it be with an adventure or just by having a chill day~ really try to live in the moment and enjoy all that Japan has to offer.
