Camping in Osaka~

No campout is complete without roasting marshmallows—indoors or out.

Whether you’re an anime lover wanting to live out your slice-of-life outdoor dreams or just someone who’s tired of the same old weekend routine, camping in Osaka is one of the best ways to recharge, reconnect with nature, and enjoy a side of Japan that’s often overlooked.

You’ve seen it in anime—I know you’ve seen the barbecue scene where high school students go camping, grill meat, laugh around the fire, and bond under the stars. Well, now it’s your turn to live that anime dream. If you’re like me, you’ve probably been dying to go camping in Japan for over two years.

As I prepare for my first real camping trip in Osaka this summer, I want to share everything I’ve learned from hours of research, asking locals, and prepping for what I hope will be an unforgettable adventure.

And if you’ve read some of my other Osaka-based adventures, you know I’m all about that outdoor life:

Pack smart, travel light—camping prep starts with reliable gear.

Before you head to the great outdoors, you’ll need to gear up. Let’s talk camping essentials in Japan. You don’t need to spend a fortune, but a few quality items will go a long way in making sure your trip is safe, fun, and hassle-free.

Here’s a sample camping gear checklist that’s perfect for beginners 🙂

-You’ll want an air pump too

And more!

You can build off this list depending on how rugged or luxurious you want your trip to be. I highly recommend doing a bit of research based on your location, the site’s facilities, and how long you plan to stay.

Buy Camp Gear From The Best!

Wake up to the sound of birds and the scent of pine—this is camping in its purest form.

Luckily, buying camping gear in Osaka isn’t too difficult, and there are a few key spots where you’ll find high-quality supplies:

This mall has a variety of shops, including athletic and outdoor stores. Whether you’re grabbing last-minute items or starting from scratch, Links Umeda is a solid place to browse.

If you’re serious about outdoor adventures, this specialty camping and hiking store has it all—tents, gear, clothes, food, and more. A great place for one-stop shopping if you want to be fully equipped.

Montbell is a well-known Japanese outdoor brand famous for durability and quality. Even if you’re not ready to splurge, it’s worth visiting for inspiration and essentials. Their staff is knowledgeable, and the variety is unbeatable.

Now that you’ve got the gear, let’s talk camping locations in Osaka. Whether you’re looking for something close to the city or a more immersive nature experience, there’s something for everyone:

  • Settsukyo Park Auto Camp (摂津峡キャンプ場)

This place is ideal for groups or solo campers. You can pitch a tent or rent a lodge, making it a flexible spot for all levels. There’s even a designated barbecue area, so don’t forget your yakiniku kit!

  • Yodogawa Camping Site (淀川キャンプフィールド)

One of my clients recommended this site, which is a beginner-friendly campsite right by the Yodogawa River. It’s technically within city limits, so if things don’t go as planned, you can be back in Osaka proper in under 30 minutes. Perfect for first-time campers or those nervous about being too far from civilization.

  • SKY DOME (Hannan) <GLAMPING>

Want to camp without actually roughing it? Try glamping in Osaka at Sky Dome. Prices start around ¥16,520, but you’ll be pampered with comfy accommodations and optional extras like tennis, massages, and a luxurious barbecue setup. This is the ideal compromise for people who want to connect with nature but still enjoy a little luxury.

Bonus!

As part of my camping prep, I’ve been watching a lot of camping vlogs—especially Weylie’s. If you’ve been following her since high school days (like me), then you already know how cozy and motivational her videos can be. If not, here are a few of my faves that’ll get you in the mood for camping life:

Honestly, her content is part self-care, part inspo, and part practical. Highly recommend watching one of these while you’re packing your camping bag or planning your trip.

Happy Camping!
